ובעת הערב קם דוד ממשכבו ששכב בצהרים והיה הולך בגג, ומשם (מהגג) ראה אשה רוחצת שהיתה טובת מראה מאד, והיא אם כן לא היתה רוחצת בגג כי אם בביתה, אבל דוד מעל הגג ראה אותה כן כי היה לביתה חלון בנכחיות הגג עד שמשם ראה אותה, ולהיות׳ רוחצת ראתה ערומה ונכנס יפיה בלבו.

And in the evening David rose from his bed, which he had lain down in the afternoon, and was walking on the roof, and from there (from the roof) he saw a woman bathing who was very beautiful, and she would not have bathed on the roof but in her house, but David saw her from the roof because her house had a window in the roof so that from there he saw her, and while she was bathing he saw her naked and her beauty entered his heart.
